TELETON

Tonight at 9.00pm is the beginning of 27 hours of Love that brings all Chileans together. Tonight and Saturday is the Telethon for the Foundation of Children with physical disabilities, common known as Teleton Foundation.

I love this event. It is huge in Chile. ALL of the network channels come together and it is the only thing they televise. Celebrities, big companies, and ordinary people take it upon themselves to reach the monetary goal that is set each Year. It such a huge event, the last 4 hours of the Telethon are televised from the Estadio Nacional -national stadium- where 30,000 spectators dance, sing and anxiously wait to see if we as a country did enough to reach the goal.

Chilean television host Mario Kreutzberger a.k.a Don Francisco you probably know him from Sabado Gigante began the Telethon event 30 years ago and since then has worked very hard to rehabilitate kids with physical disabilities. The Foundation treats more than 30,000 children for free each year.

Last year the goal was $22,245,511.00 dollars which was surpassed.
This year the goal is $23,357,523.00 dollars!!

The Telethon has a new meaning for me and my family now. My little nephew Vicente was diagnosed with Distal arthrogryposis Syndrome when he was born. The syndrome in my nephew is not strong but still he had to have surgery when he was 6months old, and he goes to therapy twice a week. Fortunately my sister and his husband can afford the cost of the therapist, doctor visits, surgeries and orthopedic shoes. But many people can't, the telethon takes care of those children.

My sister Viviana and Vicente my nephew.

Vicente, was accepted in the Teleton Foundation to receive Hydrotherapy, to help him stretch his muscle and tendons.

Getting ready to go into the pool, Isn't he the cutest!!
My sister told me he was the youngest in his group so every body thought he looked so cute wearing his swimming cap and they wanted to hold him and talk to him. He got a little intimidated with all the attention so he cried on his first hydrotherapy, which was last week.

I strongly feel the need to support this telethon and invite you to donate too.

Thank You!!!
